Here’s a recent art journal page of mine –

In my handmade art journal, I’d included a tea-dyed textured paper sheet as well, and for this art journaling session, I used one of those pages.
I started the session by spreading acrylics on a gel plate and smooshing the page onto it. I then ran a watercolor pencil at the edges, dampening it with water for a light vignette.
I then hand-tore pieces from various kinds of scraps–teabags, papers from previous gel-printing sessions, washi tape, pattern papers, and diecuts. I inked all of their edges with distress ink.

I also hand-tore paper from a brochure, inked edges with distress ink, and did an accordion fold based on a video on junk journal embellishments by the lovely Treasure Books.
I stamped a butterfly on a different piece of paper using some dye ink, which I then colored using watercolor pencils and a water brush pen. For the quote, I used a stamp with dye ink again, and carefully hand-tore it along its edge.
I adhered all the components, and some other old embellishments, over the background for a composition of my liking. To finish the page, I drew a frame along parts of the edges using a fineliner, and added some acrylics splatters. Ta da!
With this art journal page, I’m joining these challenges –
This page is gorgeous. I love all the textures and layers it has and how you’ve played with them. And that beautiful and colourful butterfly is wonderful. Thanks for joining us at A Place To Start. Hugs, María.

Thank you, Kaya! I kept trying throughout the year to think of how I could use the textured paper, and I love how all I needed was to not think too much. 🙂
