Colorful Day

[Challenge win: Top rocker at 613 Avenue Create challenge]

Week 1Week 2Week 3Week 4

It’s Monday, and I’m back for my second week in the designer spotlight on Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this month. I must say I’m still as excited about it as I was last week!

This week, the challenge is: Die Cuts.

For my project, I made a tag featuring colorful die cuts.

Colorful Day - mixed media tag by Anita

I used a sturdy coupon for the body of the tag, into which I punched an eyelet hole. I then applied white heavy gesso over the body, adhered a die-cut eyelet around the eyelet hole, and applied more gesso over the entire ensemble.

I used a kaleidoscope die to obtain some die-cut squares. I cut the squares diagonally, and set them in place on the tag with washi tape. I then used black acrylic for some drips, which flowed both over and under the die-cuts, giving some unique directions to the drips.

I then removed the die-cuts, and lightly stamped on the background using dye ink. I then inked the background’s edges with some distress ink. As for the die-cuts, I smooshed them over acrylic paint, followed by more deliberate application of the paints for a smoother look. I then adhered them to the background.

For the quote, I used dye ink with both sentiment and alphabet stamps. I fussy cut around the words and inked the edges with distress ink before adhering them to the background. I finally added black and white acrylics splatters to complete the tag. Ta da!

  2. Hi Anita: This is FAB, and pulled me here to your blog. I don’t see what die-cut you used. I love the colors on your die-cut, but again….wish I could see what you used and your process. Love this.
