Here’s a recent art journal spread of mine –
Like it sometimes happens, this spread had a lot of misses going on, but in spite of that, it turned out okay in the end.
I started the spread by trying out a ghost print from a previous gel printing session. I’d used metallic acrylics on the gel plate, so I tried using black acrylics for the ghost print to make the colors and shine pop.
That didn’t really work out well at all, do I decided to do over, and applied black gesso over the print. Since the background was now black, I decided to try out a white-with-colors project. My intention was to pounce these colors through a stencil so the image is divided colorwise.
I first masked one half of a mandala stencil, and pounced some acrylic colors through the other half. Unfortunately, some of the paint made large globs, so I spritzed water over the paint instead, and made some drips.
I didn’t want to try pouncing white acrylics over the stencil again, so I traced the mandala lines with gel pens and glitter pens instead. I then made a different freehand mandala over the other half using white gel pens.
For the quote, I used a printed sentiment. I finished the spread with acrylics splatters and oil-marker dots. Ta da!
With this spread, I’m joining these challenges –
