[Challenge win: Top 5 Design at Arty Divas challenge]

Today, I’m happy and excited to be a guest designer for the June challenge at 613 Avenue Create! As always, the challenge is anything goes, with an optional twist of Let It All Hang Out–and that includes hanging components like tags, door hangers, and charms.

Chana, the challenge coordinator, also supplied a set of digi images from SheepSki Designs for the project, and I used one of them in my mixed media tag. Here’s the tag –

I made the tag using unavailed coupons, which are quite sturdy and make good tags. Over this, I adhered laser-printed digipaper. I then applied clear gesso over it so I could use mixed media techniques without affecting the paper. Then, I applied modeling paste through a stencil, and added acrylics, with some water spritzing to help spread the paint.

When the background was dry, I used dye inks with stamps for added texture on the background. I then made marks using multiliners, then pounced distress ink along the edges for a vignette. I punched an eyelet hole at the top of the background, and glued on a diecut eyelet that I colored using a Copic marker.

For the focal component, I used a Sheepski Designs image. I adhered the printed image on spare cardboard for additional support, then colored the image using watercolor pencils and a water brush pen. I then fussy cut the image, and adhered it to the background using thick backing paper for extra dimension.

For the quote, I used archival ink and a stamp. I fussy cut around the words, added distress ink along their edges and a quick splash of watercolor on the body. I also added more depth to the edges using a black water-based marker. I then adhered the words onto the background. That completes the tag, ta da!
