I’ve been working on and off on a mini journal that I made early this year. When I was not in the mood for a long(ish) art journaling session, but still wanted to make something, I’d whip out this mini journal, and quickly stamp, scribble, draw, or color a little spread.
To make the mini journal, I first created gel prints on both sides of a drawing sheet. For the gel prints, I used stencils and acrylic paints. I stamped over this a bit. I then created a no-stitch, no-glue accordion journal by folding and partially cutting the page.
The journal is pretty tiny – it fits within a 6cm (~2.5″) square. My usual art journaling spreads are not too large anyway (they’re A5 or A6 spreads) but creating in this tiny space is always an opportunity to see things differently.
I used a mishmash of techniques in spreads over the year. Most spreads are centered around stamping, however, since it’s perfect for a quick art journaling session that doesn’t require much from me.
I absolutely adore this mini journal! ❤ Going over these spreads seems perfect for celebrating the end of this whammy of a year, and to remember how satisfying it felt to make something small while not feeling creatively up to working on bigger stuff. I think I’ll continue with mini journals next year too – they may be small but their impact on my mood is big! 🙂
