A recent art journal spread of mine –
As is becoming common these days, I started this spread on a non-empty page. I’d added ‘leftovers’ here in a previous session with my gel plate and acrylics, and it’s both a relief and a challenge when I start with a base that is not empty. 🙂
I started the background using white acrylics and a stencil with the paint-lifting technique on one side of the spread. I tried applying multiple white layers so the white shows well on a dark background, but the stencil shifted on one side without me realizing it, so I left the slightly-hazy result as is.
I hand-drew the focal owl on a different piece of paper, fussy cut it, and adhered it onto the spread. I then used watercolor pencils with a water brush pen to color the owl, and a fineliner to outline it. I just love this quirky owl! ❤
I added marks on the background using white markers, and also added some white acrylic splatters. I then stamped a sentiment using dye ink and archival ink, cut rectangles around the words and pasted them on the spread, and used a watercolor pencil at their edges. Ta da!
With this spread, I’m joining the following challenges –
Your hand-drawn owl caught my eyes instantly! It is so gorgeous Anita. Plus the background and stenciling are beautiful. Love seeing your project entered at STAMPLorations November Stencil Challenge. Hope to see you again in this month’s challenge. Have a wonderful day 🙂
Hugs and smiles,
Asmah
