I made an art journal spread recently with all the shiny things to buoy my mood. I used my gel plate for some parts of the spread, but not for monoprinting –

I started by gesso-ing the page, and added some texture with modeling paste and a stencil. I dabbed acrylics around the textures, and metallic wax over them. I then used more acrylics through stencils, outlining the results with a fineliner in the end since they didn’t turn out as vivid as I’d hoped.
I hand-tore some paper rectangles, and used a gel plate with metallic acrylics to paint them. I crudely ran a Copic marker along their edges to roughly form some framing, and adhered them in an overlapping manner on the spread.

I then added marks, a quote, and some scribble-journaling on the paper tags using a fineliner, Posca markers, and a water-based marker. I added fine acrylics splatters to various spots on the spread, both directly and from a gel plate. I also added more marks to the background with an oil-based marker – I love the glossy shine from these.
Finally, I used some watercolors on the edges of the page. That completed the spread, ta da!
With this spread, I’m joining these challenges –
This is really one gorgeous piece! All that metallic shine, plus the stark but brilliant combination of blue and copper adds so much wow factor!

Thanks, sis! It’s just wonderful to see these classic color combinations work not just for jewelry, but for art journals too. ❤

Thank you, Mireya! It’s amazing how we are inspired, and inspire others in unexpected ways, through art, right? My creations are ad hoc with quite a lot of breaks in between so I have no youtube channel, but you’re always welcome here! I hope you continue to publish your creations – they’re pretty inspiring too. 🙂

Hi Anita…it seems like a month or so since we “spoke”!
Love the fab dimension from modeling paste and stencil! Yummy shades of blue and metallic accents, contribute to a shimmery piece of mixed media journal spread. Well done!
