Time Flies | Art Journal

[Challenge win: Top rocker at 613 Avenue Create challenge]
[Challenge win: Top 5 at Arty Divas challenge]

Time flies… Or rather, I wish it did. This year seems to be progressing a bit too slowly for my liking. However, time does fly at least when I’m immersed in crafty pursuits! So here’s another art journal spread of mine that I hope reminds me of that fact.

Time Flies | Art Journal | Anita

For this spread, I used stencils with different acrylics, employing paint-lifting and pouncing. I’ve not really been able to find too many ways of using a gears stencil by itself, so I’ll need to figure this out sometime in the future, I guess. I then stamped various plant, flourish, and script impressions on this background.

I stamped the birdie on a different piece of paper, and used watercolors to apply random colors on it. I fussy cut it and glued it on as the focal object. I then scribbled over the birdie as well as stamped objects on the background with a fineliner and a Posca marker. I’m beginning to love scribbles!

I then handwrote a quote over the background using gel pens, outlining the letters with a fineliner. I used a oil-based marker to add dotted marks – I love the glossiness of the marks (though I can never capture that in my photos.) I darkened the edge using watercolor pencils and a water brush pen. That completed the spread. Ta da!

  1. Hi Anita! As you said time flies, however I was surprised by your perspective… probably due to our difference in ages. I feel like this year is whooshing by too fast 😮.
My annoying analytical habit, tells me that gears are perfect for your layout. I guess they can be used recurrently, as a part of us. Love your scribbling and little bird.
Enjoy your time and stay safe!

    1. Thanks, Cris! I guess time is relative – not only for different people, but even for different circumstances. I definitely feel that days have just zoomed by when I consider that I’ve not gotten around to any of the boring but necessary tasks that I’d planned for this year. 🙂

  4. This is incredible, a real piece of art!! I absolutely love the scribbles, they add such interest to the page and even with so many different colours used, they all go together perfectly. I would never have thought a gear stencil would go with something like this but it fits seamlessly into the background. Its an amazing page and I’m so happy you shared it with us at TIME OUT!

    1. Thank you, Shona! It was pretty surprising that the gear stencil worked for this spread, and I get really happy when things like that happen. 🙂
