I’m excited and honored to be a guest designer at Arty Divas today! You could even say I’m doubly excited since this is my first guest designer gig ever. 🙂 Thank you, Zowie and the lovely Arty Divas design team, for this opportunity and for the ever-so-fun challenges!
For this session, I made an ATC trio as it’s been a while since I created an ATC.
I worked on the background for all three cards simultaneously. I started with stencils and acrylics, using the paint-lifting technique. This background turned out too dark so I applied a white acrylic wash on it, which lightened it too much, to the point of being indistinguishable. Sigh!
Making the best of the circumstances, I continued with the background in a slightly different direction. I stamped some circular shapes using black archival ink, stamping multiple times for a few denser areas. I then added acrylics splatters.
For the focal flowers, I used die-cuts, outlining them with a fineliner. To add to the chaos near the stamped areas of the background, I switched to squiggly lines near the heads of the flowers. I’m glad I had this idea, because I love how it looks!
The stems of the flowers were still too visually weak so I used watercolor pencils and a water brush pen to add a red highlight at one side of each stem. That seemed to strengthen them a little.
I used Copic markers and oil-based markers to make a lot of marks, and used watercolor pencils at the edges for a vignette. As for the quotes, I used a fineliner and a light Copic marker to hand-write them, and used watercolor pencils at their edges as well. That completed the ATCs. Ta da!
Thanks again to the Arty Divas team for the fun opportunity. Do check out the Arty Divas blog if you are in the mood for challenges!
