An art journal spread I made recently –
For the background of this spread, I used mainly acrylics with stencils, using the paint lifting technique. I also used acrylics at the edges of the spread, and over the background to get some more color into it.
I drew the focal image over the background, and ended up making it smaller than I’d intended to. Since I didn’t really have the heart (guts?) to start over, I just continued working on it.
To color the focal image, I used watercolor pencils with a water brush pen. I love how the relative transparency of the watercolors makes parts of the background show through the image. I also used fineliners and gel pens to highlight sections.
I then used some stamps with dye inks on the background, and also made various marks with gel pens and oil-based markers. To complete the spread, I added a quote handwritten using a fineliner, fussy cut, and outlined with a watercolor pencil. Ta da!
