[Challenge win: Top 5 at More Mixed Media challenge]
I’ve been drawing and coloring more in my art journal spreads lately, and it’s interesting to observe colors play with one another, and how one medium affects another.
For the background of this spread, I mainly used the paint lifting technique and acrylics pouncing. The acrylics are metallic, so the checks in the background shine when the angle is right.
For the girl, I used mainly watercolors and watercolor pencils, with a fineliner and some gel pens for the thinner lines. I colored the dress using the same stencil as I did for the background, but with watercolors instead of acrylics.
I’ve been trying to draw and paint my focal figures directly over the background, but I still feel more comfortable creating them on a different piece of paper, fussy cutting them, and adhering them onto the background.
I used archival ink with cling foam alphabet stamps for the large letters in the quote, and handwrote the small ones. I then used an oil-based marker and gel pens to outline the letters.
I added some marks on the background to complete the spread. Ta da!
With this spread, I’m joining the following challenges –
