Be Free Earrings | We’re All Ears

My recent artistic inclinations are towards art journaling, so it’s a different sort of creative high when I make the occasional jewelry. 🙂 And what better to motivate me to work on some earrings than the We’re All Ears challenge! Erin’s prompt for April is based on our current reality – since most of us are homebound, we are to represent what Home means to us.

To be honest, I struggled with this one. I love my home, and many concepts come to mind when I think of home, and it was pretty difficult to figure out what exactly I’d want to represent here. Eventually, I settled on one. For me, home represents freedom – specifically, the freedom to just be me. This freedom is what keeps me motivated and creative, and helps me bounce back from bad days.

Incorporating this into earrings was a completely different matter, however! In the eleventh hour, I decided I’d do that by just creating freely, without worrying about the challenge or how the earrings would turn out. And I ended up creating shiny things! 🙂

I made polymer clay beads and used them as focal beads for my earrings. I used texture sheets for these beads, and gradients of different Perfect Pearls colors for the shine – yellow+orange for the background, and blue+green for the ’embossed’ parts. (How I love the shine, and how difficult it is to capture it in a picture!) I was lucky to quickly find embellishing beads and components that work with the focal beads, and assembled the earrings in no time. Ta da!
