[Challenge win: Designer spotlight at Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge]
I have these pretty Craftangles decoupage papers in my stash, which I’d been wanting to use for a while. I didn’t want to completely obscure them by using them as scrapbook / art-journal backgrounds, nor did I want to use them for decoupage. (I still haven’t gotten into decoupage.) The moment finally arrived when I was able to use them in a mixed media tag that I made recently. I was inspired by this moodboard and inspiration picture –
I cut out the patterned papers in wavy shapes and adhered them on the tag, then used some tissue paper for more texture. After applying gesso (mainly on the tissue paper) I used modeling paste and a stencil for more textural interest. I then brushed yellow, teal and orange acrylics over this ensemble. I ran over the edges of the tag with watercolor pencils and a damp brush.
Now for the focal elements. I die-cut a butterfly, and brushed metallic acrylics over it. I stamped some flowers and leaves with dye inks, and used metallic acrylics, watercolors, watercolor pencils, and multiliner pens to add some highlights and depth. I used scrap wool for the circle at the bottom, and brushed some acrylics over it. For the sentiment, I used metallic alphabet stamps with dye inks, and watercolor pencils to highlight the edges.
Before assembling the components, I also brushed metallic wax on the more textured elements. I used gel medium to secure the components. I then finished the tag by adding white acrylic splatters. Ta da!
With this project, I’m also joining these challenges –
