Adventure | ATC

[Challenge win: Favorite at Happy Little Stampers ATC challenge]

I made my first ATC (Artist Trading Card)!

ATCs have specific measurements, so I cut out a card of the required dimensions. I mostly watercolored on it, using die cut stencils for margins. I did make mistakes, but mistakes on my art journey have taught me to embrace them while I figure out how I can do better next time. 🙂

Adventure | ATC, Mixed Media | Anita

I started out by applying white gesso to make color blending easier. I made the background blue at the top, and moved down to the brown. Once that dried, I cut out a couple of die-cut stencils for the trees, and added watercolors in light & dark greens and a bit of black. The color did spread out below one of the stencils, so I just treated it as another tree in the treescape. 😉

I continued working on the sky and added some white as well. I then outlined the trees and added some light shading with fineliners.

Finally, I double-cut the earlier tree shapes using the same dies, and glued them on to form highlights for the trees. I also double-cut some arcs using circle dies, and used them as clouds. I added a couple of bird outlines to complete the scenery, and then stamped ‘Adventure’ on it. Ta-da!

The card was fun to create, but I don’t think I’ll actually trade it. 🙂 Instead, I’m submitting it to the following challenges:

  1. Wonderful card. You captured the sense of adventure perfectly.
It’s so pretty, I don’t blame you for not trading it. Good idea to submit it to the other challenges. 😀

  3. I love this card and your clever use of doubling the Die for a highlight (or shadow). I am definitely going to try this soon. Thank you for joining the HLS AG with Dies challenge!

  4. ATCs are really fun to make and being small cards, they are less intimidating than using a canvas, so I think they are perfect for mass producing, even if it’s just for ourselves. Love your solution for the third tree!

    1. Thank you, Cris! Now that you say it, I too think they suit mass production. I’m wondering if I can treat a bunch of them as a bigger canvas for quicker background, and separate them to add individual details…
